What is GymScan?
GymScan is an iOS app that helps gym beginners feel confident on the floor. Point your camera at any gym machine and the app instantly identifies it — showing which muscles it targets, how to use it with correct form, and where to start with weight.
No personal trainer required. No gym jargon. Just clear, practical information the moment you need it.
How do I scan a gym machine?
Open the app and tap the scan button on the home screen. Point your camera at any piece of gym equipment so it fills most of the frame, then hold steady for a moment.
GymScan identifies the machine in under two seconds and immediately shows you muscle targets, a form guide, and a starting-weight recommendation.
What gym equipment does GymScan recognize?
GymScan currently recognizes 200+ machines including cable machines, selectorized weight machines, cardio equipment (treadmills, rowers, bikes), and common free-weight stations.
We add new equipment regularly based on user feedback. If a specific machine isn't recognized, let us know at support@gymscan.app.
Do I need an account to use GymScan?
You can try your first scan for free without an account. Creating a free account unlocks workout logging and saves your scan history across sessions.
GymScan Pro gives you unlimited scans, full form guides, personalized starter weights, and progress tracking.
Why didn't GymScan recognize my machine?
A few things can affect recognition: make sure the machine fills most of the camera frame, the lighting is reasonable, and you're not at an extreme angle. Step back slightly if the machine is very large.
If a specific machine consistently fails, please email support@gymscan.app with a photo — we prioritize adding frequently-requested equipment.
Does GymScan work with home gym equipment?
Yes. GymScan works with most commercial and home gym equipment. Plate-loaded machines, cable systems, and multi-station home gyms are all supported alongside standard commercial gym equipment.
Does the app work offline?
Machine identification requires an internet connection to process the scan. Your workout log, previously saved machine information, and any cached form guides are available offline.
How accurate is the machine identification?
GymScan correctly identifies the vast majority of recognized machines. The muscle targets and form guides are developed with fitness professionals and reviewed for accuracy.
If you spot anything that seems wrong, please report it via the app or email support@gymscan.app — we take accuracy seriously and update the database based on every report.
How do I cancel my GymScan Pro subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through the App Store. To cancel, go to your iPhone Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → GymScan → Cancel Subscription.
You keep full Pro access until the end of the current billing period. You won't be charged again after cancellation.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com, find the GymScan charge, and select "Request a Refund."
Apple typically processes refund requests within 1–3 business days. If you have any issues, email us and we'll do our best to help.
How do I restore my purchase on a new device?
Open GymScan on your new device and tap Restore Purchases in the Settings screen. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID used for your original purchase.
If it doesn't restore correctly, email support@gymscan.app and we'll sort it out manually.
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account from within the app under Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes all your personal data and workout history within 30 days.
If you need help or can't access the app, email support@gymscan.app and we'll process the deletion for you.
The app isn't opening my camera.
GymScan needs camera permission to scan equipment. Go to iPhone Settings → GymScan → Camera and make sure it's set to "While Using App."
If camera access was previously denied, you'll need to re-enable it manually there — the app can't prompt you again once it's been denied.
The muscle targets or form guide look incorrect.
We take accuracy seriously. If you spot an error — wrong muscle group, incorrect form cue, or a mislabeled machine — please email support@gymscan.app with the machine name and what you think is incorrect.
We review all reports and push database updates regularly.
The app keeps crashing or is running slowly.
First, make sure you're running the latest version of GymScan from the App Store. A device restart often clears temporary issues.
If crashes persist, email support@gymscan.app with your device model (e.g. iPhone 15) and iOS version — this helps us track down the issue quickly.
